National Houseplant Appreciation Day!

Sunday, January 10th is National Houseplant Appreciation Day. It's a good time to bring more of nature into your home and that of others in your life. The day was created to bring more recognition to the benefits that green plants, indoor plants, and blooming plants can offer you, including cleaner air and more oxygen. Since it's also the start of a new year, it's a good way to start focusing on better health and creating a home (and even work from home) space that includes more of the outdoors. So many of us are spending more time inside than ever before, so these plants can offer a calming and healthful effect during such challenging times. The other good things to keep in mind about houseplants is that most of them are very easy to take care of and last a long time with very little maintenance. In fact, all you may need to do is put them in indirect or direct sun and check if they need water once in a while. Our San Diego flower shops also provide an extensive collection of green plants. We are always looking at ways to add more plant varieties to our in-store and website shopping options. Right now, we are happy to offer quite a few different plant options that give you a way to enjoy some varieties you may not have previously known about. For example, we have dieffenbachia, pothos, and dracaena all of which are green plants with large green leaves that add texture and depth to a room. Then, we have other green plants that you may be more familiar with that can be ordered on their own or as part of a garden setting in a basket or other [...]

Caring For Your Plants on Houseplant Appreciation Day and Every Day After That

Today, January 10th, is Houseplant Appreciation Day. This special day was created to generate awareness and appreciation for one of nature's beautiful and beneficial gifts. If you have houseplants now or are thinking of getting some, this is an opportune time to learn about how to take care of them to ensure they last for years to come. Although houseplants are generally low maintenance, there are some specific things you need to do to keep them healthy like these houseplant care tips: Since it's winter time now, it's a good idea to focus on this season's care (however, we are lucky to live in San Diego where it doesn't necessarily get that cold!). Make plenty of room in your home to give your houseplants what they deserve. This means plenty of indirect light that allows them to feed on the sunshine. You can think about putting some in hanging baskets or on shelves in front of certain windows that attract the sunlight. Also important in the winter as they are all year round are temperature and humidity levels for your houseplants. Don't put your houseplants near a drafty window or any type of heating vent. This can cause your plants stress due to the fluctuating temperature and humidity it causes. You can increase the humidity around plants by putting them in pots that sit on top of pebbles that have been placed in a water-filled tray or dish. Make sure you keep theĀ water level below the base of the containers. Additionally, you will want to maintain a regular watering and feeding schedule for your plants. Many indoor plants do not need as much water and fertilizer during the winter months. However, you should still ensure that the soil is at least [...]
